Hello,I upgraded my PC from Vista to Windows 7 (Home Premium) last weekend, and I have noticed a dramatic difference in the behaviour of my Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Controller under Windows 7. As background, I have been using Vistaon this PC for about a year-and-a-half now without any network connectivity issues. In this case, the network connection appears to drop at different times. Viper v6 game. I have not yet figured out if it is triggered by the amount of data, or at different times, but I do know that a significant amount of data traffic through connection will crashit.
For example, I have an online backup service, and I have to re-upload all of my content because I did a clean install for Windows 7. I'm in the process of uploading 28 GB - the upload does not get far before there is no network connectivity any longer. When I run an ipconfig, it appears that the computer no longer has an IP address. When I run an ipconfig /renew, a DHCP lease cannot be acquired from my router (which I have also had for over a year-and-a-half without issues). I initially thoughtit was my router, so I reset that and did an ipconfig /renew, but the same symptoms persisted. Then I ran the network troubleshooter. It reset the adapter and everything worked fine.
I started the upload again, and sure enough, a few hours later, same problem.Had to reset the adapter through the troubleshooter and it works fine right now.I did a search for similar issues, and I found the following post. It appears that I have very similar symptoms, and I am also running with an ASUS chipset.
I note that after I installed the clean version of Windows 7, one of the first Windows Update items installed was one for the Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-TController. The 'View Details' box links me to this URL, but there's a redirect, and nothing helpful shows-up:So my gut instinct tells me that there's something wrong with the driver, since my hardware setup has not changed in a long time, but my operating system has. Do you have any suggestions? I did read Amritha K's post in the similar Microsoft Answerthread that I linked to above, but I am somewhat leary of installing non-Windows 7 drivers on a new Windows 7 installation. The ASUS chipset CD I received far, far pre-dates Windows 7's existence. Is that really a good idea?Any guidance that you can provide toward resolving this issue would be much appreciated. Many thanks,JSX10.
Microsoft Security Essentials For Windows 7
Hi JSX10I had a same problem. I'm using ASUS P5K SE Motherboard. When I tried to copy some files from my another pc which was on same network, the network was dropped and I couldn't reach to my gateway.
So that time I needed to reset my router in the Windows 7 NetworkTroubleshooting but my another pc which was using same network didn't have any network problem. So I installed another network card into my pc and then the problem was solved.I think (I'm sure now) it is network card's driver issue, but then ASUS and Atheros have not realesed new version of driver for Windows 7 yet.So I think we need to use another network adaper. Yes I was getting the same (PK5 SE 32bit, with Atheros L1 Gigabit on board and recently upgraded from XP to W7).Initially all was OK, then problems seemed to happen after a Microsoft upgrade of the Atheros driver. Network kept dropping out, the computer losing it's IP address.
Yahoo Messenger For Windows 7
Could only restore by disabling then re-enabling the card.I rolled back to the previous Atheros L1 Gigabit driver version 2.4.7.172 (dated ) and so far it seems OK.Oddly, the version MS had downloaded to me seemed to have an earlier version number (something like 2.4.7.92) but was dated October 2009.Hope it helps.Something different, but same kind of issue - in the same series of updates MS also updated the nVidia display driver for the GeForce 8600 GT card that's installed. Now on certain pages on IE9 (even with all add-ons and accelerators deselected), it freezespart way down with an error and IE has to re-start. I'm beginning to wonder if it's the video driver update!I guess the message is beware of driver updates, even from MS!!
