How To Copy Dstv Pvr Program To Computer

Posted on by admin

How easy is it to copy from a PVR onto my laptop? I've read quite a few threads but I'm not sure what the current and best advice is.I posted on this site a couple of months ago, when I was debating whether to get a hdd/dvd recorder or not. I decided not to because I need a twin tuner and I only need to copy programmes onto DVD every so often (for work - I'm a teacher). The ideal is to get a PVR and a hdd/dvd recorder but I think this is too expensive.Besides, I've only wanted to record 1 programme onto DVD this year, so I figure that a PVR with the ability to copy files and make DVDs on my laptop is perhaps the best (cheapest) option.

I presume this is done via USB. Do Humax PVRS still do this? I've read conflicting reports.Any help appreciated.

Do Humax PVRS still do this? I've read conflicting reports.Any help appreciated. Unfortunately the current Humax Freeview+ PVRs 9300T and 9150T models don't have operational USB ports. These were fitted on the now obsolete (but still available from Humax) 9200T models and can be used for transferring recordings to a PC. However, I gather from posts on the forums that this is not fully reliable. The Topfield PVRs have a reputation for doing this better.

Some of the Vestel PVRs also have this facility by using a USB Memory stick but again it is not very reliable, probably dependent on the Memory stick type.Colin. If you can manage with just a single tuner PVR then the Grundig GDB20USB3 USB Digital TV Recorder might be worth a look.

It's £59.97 at Tesco at the moment. Unlike the Topfield (or most other PVRs) these Grundigs don't contain a HDD, but record straight to USB thumb drive or USB HDD on the three front-mounted USB ports.

The best thing for me is that you can watch the recordings immediately on a laptop. On a Topfield, you need to record to built-in HDD first and then transfer to laptop which can take quite a few minutes. Hi and thanks for your advice.

How

I've had a look at the Topfield and it looks good - almost too good for someone like me who is a bit of a novice! The TAPs thing is a good idea, but I wonder how much of my time they'll take up.I looked into making dvds via the usb connection to a pc and found this helpful:but what this article is saying is that it could be tricky to burn dvds. Is it tricky, and does it take a long time? Am I just better off just getting a hdd/dvd recorder and missing out on a PVR's twin tuner functionality? Thanks for any help and advice,Alan. I decided to go for a Topfield a couple of months back. To me the Hummax 9200 was just a pile of p.!I could take no more with the fiddly handheld and the difficult to read / navigate EPGAfter consideration by reading reviews I went for the older TF5800t over the TF5810The TF5800 has more memory, but small HD, but the HD you can upgrade by yourself.TAPs take memory and you'll soon find that a Toppy is nothing without the odd TAP!The MyStuff TAP makes the Toppy 'The Dogs Wotsits' over other PVRs.

By far the quickest and easiest all in one way of converting a transport stream (.ts) file to a dvd is the not free but excellent Videoredo TVsuite which lets you edit the footage (remove ads) prior to creating a dvd. The basic process is convert the.ts transport stream to a.mpg programme stream file and then burn to DVD using a dvd authoring programme. I use videoredo plus which will create the.mpg file and then a number of different dvd authoring packages depending on how complex a menu structure I want. Theres a load of stuff on the net, a quick Google found thisI have not tried this so can't comment on the quality or anything else.

What about any film over 2 hours?I have it up and running. It won't replace my pvr as I thought it had pvr functions. It is really a freeview box with usb recording a 'mpeg maker' as someone called it.The test I did worked well with working on the pc.Even though set to RGB, it looks brighter and more composite looking than my PVR also on RGB.I will be testing it with NCIS and Numb3rs tonight. I will be double recording it just in case.I will be getting another 16GB pen drive for it.

It looks like some stuff is possible. Check out the following thread:-snip-videotape74 posted 2007 Mar 19 04:17as some of you might already know, it's possible to record programs from your settop cable box to your computer via the firewire port on your cable box (if it's enabled).

Well, my cable company here in Toronto (Rogers) has recently enabled this via their recent firmware updates.recording is of course limited to those stations/programs that are not 'encrypted' but recording of SD/HD channels that are not 'flagged' is possible.now, i've set up my computer & STB via firewire using these generic TV Tuner firewire drivers and following this guide and I'm able to capture all of the SD channels and only a couple HD channels, the rest of the 'unencrypted' channels have serious artifacts and/or pixelation. Now the thing that I'm trying to figure out is a guy who lives in the same area as me is able to capture all of the 'unencrypted' channels flawlessly.but he's on a Mac. So, what I'm wondering is, is this more likely anything a Windows driver problem? And if so, does anyone know of any other drivers that could/might work or things that I have to change?

I'm on WinXP SP2. I was thinking of trying Win2000 to see if the drivers have better compatibility but I don't wanna go through all that hassle for nothing. Also, the cable box I'm using is a SA3250HD.-snip.
