I want to start with this. I don't usually give product reviews or vendor reviews unless they go way above and beyond or unless they really piss me off. Second, don't let what I have to say here sway your product choice as an only data point.NOW.here goes.
Samson has a stupid product lineup and fairly crappy customer service, IMO.First about the product. I purchased a true dual system with longtail (fishtail) mufflers for my 2007 Deluxe just like the ones I had on my 2005 Deluxe. The style really completes the look I was going for on this (and that) bike.
I understand that these and any other fishtails typically don't perform real great but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.So I get the complete system in and start the install and as I'm unboxing the parts, I notice that the tailpipes seem really light weight. I look inside to find that there is no baffle of any type. Now on my system that was on my 2005, it had a baffle material that was coated on the inside of the pipe. So I contact their technical support group via email and ask for some help. In that email I also ask about using torque cones vs. Baffles and which was a better way to produce torque.
I personally don't care about HP because I'm not usually twisting on the throttle like that anyway. So I was told to go with torque cones over baffles as the torque cones were to supposed to be better scavenge. So I order torque cone. I install the system with the torque cones and fired up the bike. Holy Crap.loud. Okay, well I don't so much mind the loud as this bike is more of a head turner anyway. Next order of business was to take the bike to a guy I know and have him install the SE-255 cams I bought for the bike (only because I didn't want to buy the bearing puller and installer tools).
As soon as he was done, I put the bike on a trailer and took it to my tuner. Go to pick up the bike and on my ride home I notice two issues; 1) one of the tailpipes has a spot of discoloration and 2) that the exhaust is not only loud but really raspy/tinny. So I contact Samson to ask if adding baffles will solve my 'pitch or tone' problem of sounding raspy and inquire about the discoloration. They proceed to tell me that the system I purchased can't have baffles added. This was a $900 exhaust system and there is no way to add baffles.
And I was told to use 'blue job' for the discoloration. Now here's where I start getting pissed. I asked about the discoloration and I get told 'well your bike is running too lean and it makes it run hot'. I then tell them that I took the bike straight to the dyno tuner to get the bike tuned. It aint running lean.I promise, I can smell the gas.
The guy at Samson tells me that my discoloration was due to the dyno. I'm thinking that their crap should be able to withstand more than a couple 2 or 3 pulls on the dyno. Also, they tell me that I can by a set of mufflers that look exactly like the ones I bought for $427.95 that have a removable tip so I can install/remove the baffle. So why would you offer two products that are identical with the exception of one having a removable tip to allow install/removal of the baffle, and another product that simply can't be modified. If a customer wants that look but doesn't want the baffle the just take it out. It's not like one system is more expensive than the other.

They are exactly the same price. Now mind you, no one asked me about the system I purchased when we were talking torque cones vs. Baffles. So, bottom line, I think that Samson offers some nice styles, but their overall quality is crap and the customer service is BS.I'm stuck with what to do now. I really like the look but the performance sucks and I can't stand the sound. I could put the V&H system that was on the bike but it isn't the style I'm looking for. None the less, I will figure something out.
I'm not looking to drop big money again on a new system. That is all. Nope.they are dumb-arses. In fact, it is worse than I thought.
So, the person that I thought was going to help me turned out to not understand her job. She told me to send my pipes back and they could exchange them for a different pair. So I pull them off, clean them up, ship them back to Sturgis, and get a call 3 days later to tel me that they cannot be returned because they are used and they can't see them. SO I go back through all my emails and find where I explicitly stated that they had been on the bike and ran. I even pointed out that they had been on the bike when it was dyno tuned. She replied back and admitted that she made a mistake and didn't understand their policy.
They shipped the pipes back (still waiting on them). On a brighter note, they did offer to see me another pair of tailpipes for 20% off list price plus shipping.Oh well.I will never buy Samson products again.
