Starting with the DVD – I was expecting the performances of the different years to be run consecutively, but they don’t which I thought would spoil the follow of the DVD. Surprisingly though it doesn’t each track has caption with the song title and the year it was record as you skip from 2009, to 2004 to 2007 and back again. This means you get some rarities like a Red Star Rising, Stallions of the Highway and Travelers in Time in the great range of 30 different songs on the DVD. Sound and film quality are great throughout.

It is also interesting to see how the Waken stage changes over the three different years. The DVD is completed with bonus features of a Behind the Scenes interview and a slide show. The CDs were recorded on the Call to Arms tour and contain four songs from that CD, Hammer of the Gods, Back in 79, Call to Arms and When Doomsday Comes. The expected classics from Wheels of Steel Strong Arm of the Law and Denim and Leather are also present along with Play it Loud which I don’t think I’d heard live since the Denim and Leather tour.So which of the two packages we have reviewed should you buy?

Well the cheaper of the two options is the double CD of the Wacken 2009 show that, which is very good, but I think it’s worth spending that little bit more for this DVD/CD pack.2 CD + 1 DVD Digipack (cat no.
